Randy went to the American Academy of Dramatics Arts with eight others from the Santa Barbara area; the group was known as the Santa Barbara Gang.

Many well known actors and actresses are alumni from the Academy, one such person whom he graduated with is Kate Jackson, one of the original Charlie's Angels.

Randy is an avid camper and loves to travel across the country.

Randy owned six horses on his ranch and usually rode an English Quarter horse named Brandon.

After he graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Randy worked as a page for NBC in New York.

The first Broadway play he saw was "Hair".

Randy enjoys all sports, and is an avid baseball fan. His favorite baseball team is the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The first lines Randy ever said on television were spoken on the show Matt Lincoln. His lines were: "I do" (when his character was getting married) and "I will" (when told to have fun on his honeymoon).

Randy and Kevin Tighe were never tested together for the roles of "Johnny" and "Roy" on Emergency! When first introduced they were simply told "here is your new best friend". They still remain best friends today.

During Emergency!'s early run Randy could not go shopping at the local supermarkets because children would recognize him and followed him around saying "Look mom, Johnny Gage is buying Mayonnaise!"
